It is anticipated that the Wisconsin State Assembly will be meeting in Caucus this coming Tuesday, June 9th to deliberate on the Budget Bill. They may be voting on the budget by June 12th and then send it to the Wisconsin Senate. Our state is at a 6.6 billion dollar shortfall. Yet, the budget they plan to be voted on next week includes millions of dollars for the establishment of domestic partner benefits for state employees, includes money to expand the family planning waiver to give contraceptives to teenage boys, forces pharmacies to dispense prescribed contraceptive drugs or devices without delay, forces taxpayers to give tuition breaks to illegal aliens in the UW system, gives illegal aliens special cards that will allow them to drive, increase garbage taxes to be the highest in the nation, creates a new phone tax, new hospital taxes, new oil taxes, and spends millions of additional dollars on earmarks. The budget calls for reducing funding for local governments and school districts leaving it up to the local taxpayers to fill the gap, it decreases funding to prosecutors but increases funding for defenders and provides for early release for certain prison inmates. The budget increases car insurance minimums and reverses our law so that a person or company less at fault than others for an accident could have to pay all the damages. The budget eliminates the QEO for teachers and raises the income tax rate for the highest income bracket in our state. The budget passed through committee even permits non profits to serve free beer or wine at fundraising events.
