Milwaukee Public Library co-presents Milwaukee Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Film Festival’s advance screening of “Howl

A press release went out today announcing the Milwaukee LGBT Film/Video Festival will present an advance screening of “Howl” in recognition of Banned Book Week. This film showing is taking place September 15th at the UWM Union Theatre.

This film is based upon a poem written in the 1950’s by Allen Ginsberg and was originally considered to be obscene with its vulgarity and extensive perverse sexual content. The film follows the lawsuit filed in the '50's by the ACLU supporting the poem.

According to their release, Howl is “co-sponsored by the UMW Union Theatre and Equality Wisconsin, and co-presented by Woodland Pattern Book Center, the Milwaukee Public Library, UWM Libraries, Milwaukee Film, and the ACLU of Wisconsin Foundation in anticipation of Banned Book Week, September 25-October 2”.

Here are a couple links promoting the event:

Warning: Planned Parenthood Goes to Park to Woo Youth

Planned Parenthood, known for being the largest provider of abortion and who successfully lobbied for comprehensive sex education in the public schools is now going to the park this summer using music to draw young people to them.  Their purpose:   “to educate and engage [youth and young adults] around reproductive and sexual health issues”.   They will be in Washington Park August 26th.  This is part of Planned Parenthood’s 75th Anniversary Celebration.

As they engage young people on these issues they will be having free giveaways. Parents:  a good day NOT to let your children go to the park!
