La Crosse Mayor Vetoes Council's Attempt to Decriminalize Marijuana

On Tuesday October 12th, the Mayor of La Crosse, Matt Harter vetoed legislation passed a week earlier by the La Crosse Common Council that would decriminalize first time offenders who possessed fewer than 25 grams of marijuana.  The matter now goes back to the Common Council who will consider a veto override.  A two- thirds majority vote will be needed to overturn the mayor’s veto.  Last week the council voted 9-7 in favor of the decriminalization with one abstention.  To share your views with the La Crosse Common Council you may call them at (608) 789- 7510.  The Council is next scheduled to meet November 11, 2010.
