House Votes to Defund Planned Parenthood

On Friday, February 18, 2011 - By a vote of 240-185 the U.S. House of Representatives voted in favor of defunding Planned Parenthood for this current fiscal year.  It was added as an amendment to H.R. 1, the Continuing Appropriations Act of 2011.

The Wisconsin Delegation voting in favor of defunding Planned Parenthood included:  Representatives Duffy, Petri, Ribble, Ryan & Sensenbrenner.

Wisconsin Delegation voting against included:  Representatives Baldwin, Kind and Moore

This legislation will make it’s way to the Senate for consideration.  You may share your views with your senators as follow:

WI Primary – Tuesday, February 15, 2011

The Wisconsin Primary is Tuesday, February 15, 2011.  Votes will go to the polls to cast ballots to narrow the field of candidates for the April 5th General Election.  Each municipality will have a variety of issues.  Some will vote on school board seats, aldermen, mayors, trustees, county supervisors, county executives and possible referendum questions.  To view a sample ballot or to know your polling location, visit this link:  https://vpa.wi.gov/

Prayer Challenged at Marshfield City Council

According to the Marshfield News Herald the Freedom From Religion Foundation has filed a complaint with the city of Marshfield urging the City Council to discontinue the practice of prayer at their meetings, claiming “the prayers violate the constitutional principle of separation between church and state”.  According to the article, Annie Laurie Gaylor, co-president of the Freedom From Religion Foundation” said, “’We don’t want them to be praying at all,’ adding that no prayer during meetings would ensure the council is in compliance with the Constitution.” You can read the full article at this link: http://www.marshfieldnewsherald.com/article/20110204/MNH0101/102040629/1732&located=rss
