Despite the growing evidence of the harmful effects of marijuana use, during the Thursday, June 9, 2011 La Crosse Common Council meeting, the Common Council voted 11-4 to de-criminalize first offenders who possessed up to 7 grams of marijuana and drug paraphernalia as a municipal offense rather than a criminal charge. The issue now goes to Mayor Mathias Harter who will have to decide whether or not to veto this ordinance. He has until 5:00pm Tuesday, June 14th to make his decision.
