Two important Public Hearings are being held this week on two separate bills:
Assembly Bill 337 – “Strong Communities…Healthy Kids Act” peels back the Planned Parenthood Human Growth & Development Mandates passed in the last session. This bill enables school districts to have an abstinence centered curriculum. Specifically, this legislation will: 1) present abstinence as the preferred behavior choice for unmarried pupils; 2) emphasize that abstinence is the only reliable way to prevent pregnancy and avoid sexually transmitted infections; 3) provide instruction in parental responsibility and the socioeconomic benefits of marriage; 4) explain pregnancy, prenatal development and childbirth; 5) explain the criminal penalties for underage sexual activity; and 6) explain the sex offender registration requirements.
